NOTICE OF RACE

BMW-Berlin-Match-Race 2010 ISAF grade 1 OPEN

3th – 7th November

1. The Organising Authority
The Organising Authority (OA) will be Berliner Yacht-Club and Verein Seglerhaus am Wannsee.

2. Venue
The venue will be Lake Wannsee, Berlin, Germany.
3. Event Grading
The event has applied for ISAF Grade 1.
This grading is subject to review by the ISAF Match Race Rankings Sub Committee.
The event may be re-graded when there is clear reason to do so.
4. Provisional Agenda
4.1 (a) Race office opens on November 3rd, 10:00.
(b) Registration will be on November 3rd, from 10:00 until 20:00.
(c) Crew weighing will be on November 3rd, from 10:00 until 20:00.
(d) Practice will be possible on November 3rd.
(e) First briefing will be on November 3rd, at 20:00.
(f) The first meeting with the umpires will be on November 4th, at 8:30.
(g) An Opening Ceremony will be held on November 4th, at 20:00.
(h) Racing days will be from November 4th to November 7th.
(i) Time of the first race each day will be 10:00 cet.
(k) Daily press conference will be held one hour after the last race of each day.
(l) Prize giving will be held immediately after the final.
4.2 Unless excused by the OA, attendance at the following is mandatory:
(a) Initial first briefing on November 3rd, at 20:00, for skippers.
(b) Daily press conferences, for skippers sailing that day.
(c) "Kamin-dinner" for skippers and crews on November 5th, 20:00.
(d) Prize giving for the final skippers and crews.
(e) Sponsors party for skippers and crew on November 6th.
5. Skippers eligibility
5.1 Twelve skippers will be invited.
Only skippers invited by the OA will be eligible to enter this event.

5.2 The registered skipper shall helm the yacht at all times while racing, except in an emergency.
5.3 To remain eligible, a skipper shall confirm acceptance of invitation in writing, (fax or e-mail is acceptable) to be received by the date specified on the letter of invitation.
5.4 All competitors shall meet eligibility requirements of ISAF regulation 19.2.
5.5 All competitors shall obtain an ISAF Sailor ID by registering online at
www.sailing.org/isafsailor.
Skippers shall inform the OA of their ISAF ID at registration.
6. Entries
6.5 (a) The skipper shall be entered on completion of registration, crew weighing and payment of deposits. All payments shall be made in cash.
(b) Entry Fee
There will be no entry-fee.
6.6 Damage deposit
(a) An initial damage deposit of € 500,00 shall be paid at registration in cash, unless extended by the OA. This deposit is the maximum payable by the skipper as a result of each single incident.
(b) Any remaining deposit after the event will be refunded by the end of the event.
(c) In the event that a deduction from the damage deposit is decided by the OA it may require that the deposit be restored to its original amount before the skipper will be permitted to continue in the event.
(d) The OA does not accept credit cards for initial damage deposits.
6.7 Insurance
All competitors are required to have adequate third party insurance.
7. Rules
7.5 (a) The event will be governed by the rules as defined by the RRS, and including
Appendix C.
(b) The notice of race, including amendments.
(c) The sailing instructions (SI) (available at registration) and any amendments of the SI.
7.6 Major Alterations to the RRS
Any rules or major changes intended to the RRS will be included in the SI.
7.7 An International Jury will be appointed, approved by the national authority, in accordance with RRS Appendix N.
8. Boats and Sails
(a) The event will be sailed in international J 80-Class type boats. 7 Boats will be provided by the OA.
(b) The following sails will be provided for each boat :
Mainsail, Jib, Gennaker.
(c) Boats will be allocated by draw, either daily or for each round as decided by the Race Committee (RC).
9. Crew (including skipper)
(a) The number of crew (including the skipper) shall be 4 (four). All registered crew shall sail all races.
(b) The maximum total crew weight, determined prior to racing shall be 350,-- kg, when wearing at least shorts and shirts.
(c) When a registered skipper is unable to continue in the event the OA may authorise an original crew member to substitute.
(d) When a registered crew member is unable to continue in the event the OA may authorise a substitute, a temporary substitute or other adjustment.
10. Event Format
10.1 The event will consist of the following stages:
Stage 1 – A Single Round Robin
Stage 2 – Shortened Quarter Final with 6 teams or Quarter Final with 8 teams
Stage 3 – 5-6 Sail Off or 5-8 Sail Off
Stage 4 – Semi Final
Stage 5 – Petit Final
Stage 6 – Final
10.2 The OA may change the format, terminate or eliminate any round, when conditions do not permit the completion of the intended format.
11. Course
The course will be windward/leeward with starboard roundings, finishing downwind.
12. Advertising
(a) As boats and equipment will be supplied by the OA, ISAF regulation 20.4 applies. Each boat will be required to display advertising as supplied by the OA.
(b) Competitors may be required to wear clothing or logo of an event sponsor while racing or at official functions.
(c) Boats shall not be permitted the right to protest for breaches of any rules regarding advertising (amends RRS 60.1).
13. Prizes
(a) The principal prize for first place will be the "Jubiläums-Cup" given by Hermann Noack.
(b) There will be a price money of € 19.900,--.
(c) These prizes have been approved by the national authority.
(d) ISAF has been notified of these prizes.
(e) The OA may reduce a prize in the case of misconduct or refusal to comply with any reasonable request, including attendance at official functions.
14. Media, Images and Sound
14.1 If required by the OA:
(a) Television personnel and equipment (or dummies) supplied by the OA shall be carried on board while racing.
(b) Competitors shall wear microphones supplied by the OA during racing and be available for interviews when advised by the OA or RC.
(c) Registered skippers shall wear communications equipment supplied by the OA that will allow commentators to communicate with them whilst racing.
14.2 Competitors shall not interfere with the normal working of the OA supplied media equipment.
14.3 The OA shall have the right to use any images and sound recorded during the event free of any charge.
15. Coach Boats
There will be no coach boats allowed.

All those taking part in the event do so at their own risk. The OA, its associates and appointees accept no responsibility for any loss, damage, injury or inconvenience incurred, howsoever caused.
17. Entries
Entries will only be accepted from invited skippers. If you wish to be invited please register your request for an invitation as soon as possible with the OA by using the application for invitation attached to this document or downloaded from the events website.
